Can I Have British and French Nationality?

If you are born british, it is virtually impossible to loss this nationality,
or at least the right to have it.

Even if you renounce it (as some countries require if you are asking for their nationality),

you can always go back and ask for it again.

Even countries that do not ordinarily allow dual nationality (if you are asking for their nationality) allow it if you were born with it (i,e, it was not voluntary/your choice to select the extra nationalities eg gernany, italy and the US)

And France is quite happy to let you be a dual national anyway.
(of course that does mean you can be called up as part of their national service..)

actually.. its more a case, of they do not prevent it !

If you go to the wikipedia on the history of passports,
you will see that untill quite late into 1900's they quite happily gave passports to anyone... and then decided to forget them altogether..opening the borders completely !

Worry not. you are fine, no decisions to take..
though if you are eligable, I would get both passports ASAP..
the rules are getting tougher and tougher for all counrtries on getting the 1st one.
renewals are fairly easy.

The Dark Side

Neither country's law states that you have to choose when you are older. You have dual nationality now and unless you renounce either of them, you will keep them.

Maybe you're thinking of the French law that says that if you are born in France of two non-French parents and live in France, you can acquire French citizenship just by asking for it at the age of 16.

At 16 you do NOT have to choose one over the other. It is allowed in many countries.Not many countries ask that you pick one citizenship.

You can have dual nationality it just means you have 2 passports

i think you can have dual nationality. My uncle is from the UK and still has a UK passport but is also a citizen of australia and has an australian passport. I don't think it would be too dissimilar with France :)
