Can I apply for a USA visa from Jamaica even though I'm a UK Citizen?
|
As above really.
I'm travelling to Jamaica this summer and I really want to travel on to the states afterwards however i need a visa. I won't be going until september but I have to have a visa because I am not eligable for the visa waiver system. Can i apply for a visa whilst i'm in kingston or is the US embassy there only for jamaican citizens?
Thanks for any help you can give. I have emailed them to ask but have heard nothing back and no-one seems to know the answer! Additional Details Can people please say what they are basing their answers on, it would be helpful to know if these answers were based on experience or just people saying "no" just to get more points!!

Ok doc, I can feel your frustration with some of these empty answers. Maybe to give out fuller details about your predicament might help, such as if you are a U.K. citizen with an U.K. passport why are you not eligible for the visa waiver scheme like all other U.K. nationals. Also it might just help to select another date at the U.K. embassy when you expect to arrive back home from Jamaica. Good luck with your quest. |

the visa waiver stuff normally cover all UK citizen, except you know actually there is a clause on your observation page, can you go back to UK, and apply for the USA visa, it will be difficult to get the USA Visa from jamaica base on the mentality of the USA immigration officer, they careless about your passport recognition from jamaica |

# Can I apply for a USA visa from Jamaica even though I'm a UK Citizen?
As above really.# let's start with that phrase.. are you or NOT an UK citizen?my understanding is# you are an UK citizen by the way you are writing the fist phrase?
individuals are NOT the ones who are visa waiver ,but countries are.
the UK and US are visa waiver countries.
now? if you are NOT a citizen of the UK?
yes you will need a visa,
you may NOT ask for a visa for the US while you are on vacation in Jamaica.
you must do that from the country where your usual residence lies.
if you wish? you may come back? i will check with your question, and see if you have added more comments?
ps:
i am trying to help, but? you are not answering me.........
where are now you living? in which country?
what nationality are you?
no, you cannot ask for a visa, while you are visiting Jamaica.
you must ask for a visa from your residence, that is: where you live.
i am NOT saying that because i think so,
it is the law , apply for a visa from your home country, that is where you live.
ok; i came back, let me rephrase this: in one comment you said #
am not eligable to apply for the visa waiver scheme, that is why i require a visa.
From gaining a bit more information it seems that on the websites you can apply for a visa from another country but it is at their jurisdiction.
If you have experience that confirms or denies this then please let me know, don't just say no because you think that might be the case.

1. As stated, I am a UK citizen. I live in England.
2. I cannot get an appointment in London because i will not be here. I am leaving for jamaica (fingers crossed) in 5 weeks and they do not have an appointment at the embassy in London for another 6 weeks.
3. I am not eligable for the visa waiver scheme.
4. The US embassy website says you can apply in a foreign country for an american visa, but it is up to them whether they process it. Does anyone have any evidence to support or contradict this?
ok : REAS THIS:
if indeed you are an UK citizen, you DO NOT NEED a visa to enter the US; for 90 days;
the US /UK are in the visa waiver countries................
# 3. I am not eligable for the visa waiver scheme.# ? what are you saying? ??????
either you are an UK citizen or not?
#############################
ps:
i went to the US site, and i read why you would not be eligible, here are some reasons:
Nationals of VWP countries must meet the conditions noted in the section above in order to seek admission to the United States under the Visa Waiver Program. Travelers who do not meet these conditions must apply for a visa. In particular, a visa must be requested if the traveler:
Wants to remain in the United States for longer than 90 days, or envisions that they may wish to change their status (from tourism to student, etc.) once in the United States;
Wants to work or study in the United States, wants to come to the United States for other purposes not allowed on a visitor visa, or intends to immigrate to the United States;
Does not have a machine-readable passport (MRP) issued or renewed/extended before 10/26/05, or is unable to meet other requirements outlined above for passports issued on or after October 26, 2005 or October 26, 2006.
Intends to travel by private aircraft or other non-signatory air or sea carriers to the United States;
Has been refused a visa or admission to the United States before, or did not comply with the conditions of previous VWP admissions (90 days or less stay for tourism or business, etc.); or
Has a criminal record or other condition making them ineligible for a visa (see Classes of Aliens Ineligible for Visas).........
so? since there are no appointment before 6 weeks? nothing you can do.........
you can surely try to do it from Jamaica?........ but? remember? if is summer season; |
