Can anyone WHO KNOWS and isn't guessing, tell me if I can claim duel nationality and hold an Irish passport if I can prove my Great Great Grandparents were both irish?
I don't want any second guess replies please...

As a general rule, you need an Irish grandparent. However, it's more complicated than that. It's unlikely you qualify for an Irish passport if your only connection with Ireland is 2 Irish great great grandparents. |

It doesn't go that far back to claim Irish citizenship. Just your parents or grandparent. Not great great grandparents. Plus you have to have birth certificate, marriage certificate and death certificate. Remember during your great great grandparent time Ireland was still under British rule until 1922 Ireland became independent. So during your great great grandparent time they would have been considered English.
Other Irish ancestors
Unless at least one parent or grandparent was an Irish citizen at the time of your birth, you cannot claim Irish citizenship on the basis of extended previous ancestry (that is, ancestors other than your parents or grandparents). In addition, you cannot claim Irish citizenship on the basis that relation such as a cousin, aunt or uncle was an Irish citizen if none of your parents or grandparents was an Irish citizen at the time of your birth. |

Why would you want to bother if you already hold a British passport? You get the same rights as are afforded to any Irish citizen. |
