Can I enter United States with LPR without passport?

I am in Europe because my husband is stationed here and I am wondering if I can enter back to the US with my LPR (I have only been out of the states less than 5 months) and we are going to have orders to go back to the US. I do not have a passport because my status is a Refugee in the US but I hold a green card. Does anybody know? Can someone help me? Im trying to contact the US Embassy here also but they are taking mighty long =(

I came to Europe with a Travel Document that was issued to me but now I can't renew it on time bc they won't expedite it. Thanks in advance

The green card isn't a travel document. However, if you are a refugee, although strickly speaking green card holders aren't refugees anymore, you can get a refugee travel document. Or you could try to get a passport from your orginal country, depending. If you're in Germany, go to Frankfurt and talk to the USCIS office there. They should be able to arrange something. Don't lose more time waiting to hear from someone. go in an ask. |

As a LPR of the United States you can enter the United States with the I-551 LPR Card. But, if you have been outside the United States more than 6 months, you may have problems with your status.
