Can I extend a schengen visa??

I have a scholarship for educational training for 6 months in Germany, I applied for a schengen visa for 90 days to renew the visa in Germany for the other 90 days, but in the embassy they said that I can't renew it or extend it in Germany, thats mean that I have to travel back to my origin country to extend it.
Or simply apply for residence permit but it would take about 45 days to get it while I don't have the time factor.
What is your advice for me ??

scholarship visa and tourist visa, are not the same,
if you want to do the legal thing, you will have to ask for a residence permit, otherwise? you will have to go back,
my advice? ask for the residence permit;
