Can I fly back to the US on an expired UK visa without getting a bad mark on my passport?
Find answers to your legal question.

Can I fly back to the US on an expired UK visa without getting a bad mark on my passport?

My UK travel visa expires in March but my flight back to the states is in April. What will happen to me if I remain in the UK until its time to fly back to the US? Will I get some kind of bad mark on my passport when I reach the US? I am a US citizen, by the way.

You will have problems entering any European Union country again. My question is how come you have a flight back in April when your visa expires in March? If you have gotten the full six month general visitor's leave to remain why have you got a flight back 7 month after your entry. If you just should have gotten 3 months leave to remain you could apply for an extension at an office of the U.K. Border Agency. I would strictly recommend to do that, otherwise you may get rejected entry to any EU country.

Edit:
The United Kingdom participates although not being a member of the Schengen travelling agreement in the Schengen Information System and will participate in the Schengen Visa System (internal) which is supposed to be invented in spring, it is a EU program which is not limited to the Schengen countries.

Rebook your return flight to the US in March. Or get out of the UK for a week. Return to reset your entry/exit to a new 90 days. (visa waiver entry) Wait till your scheduled flight.

The length of your overstay will determine whatever sanction you get when you try to re-enter the UK in the future. Maybe yes, maybe no.

you would be surprised to know how many people who have done the same as you come here to talk about the same issue, have been stopped by immigration on leaving the UK too late, the fact that you are a US citizen, does not erase the fact that you too have to obey the law of other countries
,the US will not do anything to you,but the UK will put a stamp on your passport, and yes,you will encounter problems when go back to the UK and entering the EU,later on,
so? contrary to the person who disagreed above me? yes it will stay in your record .and yes the EU will give you problems when trying to enter.

Contrary to what the other poster writes, the UK has nothing to do with the Schengen countries immigraton-wise !

There are NO immigration checks when leaving the UK, so no-one will notice you overstayed. The US will not care either.
However, you could be subject to deportation if you get caught before arriving at the airport, e.g. if you passport gets checked by police after a car accident etc. So overstaying is not entirely risk-free.

Mamour : The UK does not have immigration checks on departure, so there will be no stamps ! Also : the UK immigration system is completely seperate from the rest of EU (Schengen). They do not use the same computer system nor do they share information. Even if you are banned in the UK, you can still enter the Schengen states.
