My mother was born in germany and has a german birth certificate. However, she moved to Australia with her mother when she was four and now both have Australian Citizenship, as do I. Does any one know what requirements I need to fulfill, or if I am legible for German citizenship?

Ok, this is an awesome question! I'm a fluent German speaker and am trying to find out the same thing. Firstly, you need to know if your mom has a dual citizenship, or if she gave it up. If she still has the citizenship, then it should be a piece of cake, if she doesn't - no worries, it will still be pretty easy. The main thing is - your mom is German. Find the nearest German embassy and get in touch with them. They will send you the forms or you can print them off and it's just a matter of filling them out and proving that she was born there. it all depends on your year of birth, German law has often changed,the article on citizenship on the embassy/ consulate site, is in German only;

you should beable to get one with out any requirements I could be wrong but if your mom was born there your legal right as one so you shouldnt need requirements for a german citizenship |
