I have a quick question. I started my MA in London during 2007-2008 but paused my studies. I am currently getting certified to teach in Texas as a primary teacher. Once I obtain my certificate after teaching for a year, I will be able to teach overseas. I would love to teach while in London to support myself but I know that with a student visa I will not be able to work over 20 hours per week. I will be returning to London during the 2010-2011 school year and want to finish my MA as well. In order to be a teacher I will need a work visa. In order to finish my degree I will need a student visa. Can I hold both at once? Or, will I not be able to be a teacher while working or visa versa?

You cannot have both the visas at the same time. As you rightly pointed out, you can legally work for only 20 hours during your term time while you are on a student visa. You can however apply for a Tier 1 Post Study Work Visa and start working/teaching full time once your student visa expires.
Please be aware, if you work more than 20 hours during your term time and the authorities find it out, you might not be eligible to apply for a UK visa extension in another category in future. |
