Can I obtain Polish citizenship through descent?

My grandfather was born in Poland in 1923 and immigrated to Canada in 1929, then moved to the US in the 1930s. Is it possible for me to apply for Polish citizenship? Did my grandfather lose his when he immigrated? If so, would that qualify me for a "Confirmation of Possession or Loss of Polish Citizenship"?

I was born in Poland and came to the US with my family when I was 5 years old. I never lost my Polish citizenship, even when I and most of my family members became naturalized American citizens. Poland and the US recognizes dual citizenship, and I have dual citizenship. So your grandfather probably never lost his Polish citizenship, even if he became an American or Canadian citizen.

I live in Utah and recently talked to some people who came to the US in the 1980's from Poland. They told me that their children, though born in Utah, would also be Polish citizens because they are of Polish ancestry. A Polish consulate or embassy would be able to verify this 'citizenship through descent' for you.

One time I lost my Polish birth certificate and contacted a local Polish consulate to get another one. They were very helpful. So again I would recommend you contact the closest Polish embassy or consulate to your whereabouts. They would give you the most accurate answer. Good Luck.
