"DUAL CITIZENSHIP: NOT RECOGNIZED. Exception: Spain has dual citizenship treaties with the following countries: Bolivia, Chile, Ecuador, Costa Rica, Guatemala, Nicaragua, Paraguay, Peru, the Dominican Republic, Argentina, and Honduras. Spaniards residing in the above countries do not lose their rights as Spaniards if they adopt the nationality of the country of residence. For all other countries, Spanish citizenship is revoked upon the acquisition of foreign citizenship. " |

Yes.
If a Spaniard is naturalized as a US citizen, she does have to take an oath in which she will renounce other citizenships. However, whether that oath would be sufficient to actually take away her Spainish citizenship is a matter of Spainish law. In Spain, as with most countries, it is not.
You can also be a dual citizen, even if not naturalized. for example, if you were born in Spain to one Spainish and one American parent.
I'm not sure about the naturalization process to become a Spainish citizen, but in it is extremely difficult to lose your US citizenship. You have to renounce you citizenship in fromt of certain designated officials. |
