Can a US Citizen get an ITIN ......?

In order to be able to open a bank account. And to find a job. But without having to get a Social Security Number?

The reason I do not want a social security number, is because I feel that the government is misusing the ssn as some sort of a "tracking number". It was supposedly intended only to keep track of a person's earnings, for future benefit payments as well as for paying income tax.
But when I go to sign up for utilities, or cable, or internet, or to cash a $10.00 rebate check, all things that are not related to the payment of taxes, and none of which I expect to be earning any income from acquiring an account for.

I understand that ITIN's are recyclable, therefore not used as a national tracking number.

I do not know the answer to your question, but I feel the same way as you. I am an American citizen, and refuse to give out my ss number, except for job or banks. Doctors ask for it, dentist ask for, everyone seems to want to know it, and I refuse to give it. It has mad some people really mad, but I don't care, it is only required by law for banking and employment, or if you are seeking credit of some sort. Other than that, people don't need to know my ss number. I think more people should stand up and refuse to just give out their ss numbers willy Neille. If they are ever the victim of Identity theft, then they can probably just blame their selves.

I found what you were not mentioning, if the reason is because you don't have a birth certificate is not good enough. By saying you don't want to be tracked to get an answer is just abysmal

Seems you are definitely hiding something besides from "i want to be private" and trying to get around it. Sorry if you want to be that way. Plus you think by doing this they won't be able to track you? if the government wanted to track you they can if it warrants it. Your story is just iffy at best

Who needs an ITIN?
