Can anyone tell me about living in the Dominican Republic?

I graduate from school in 2008 and I want to move to the Dominican Republic. I will be a Medical Lab Tech and I want to know a little more before I go visit next spring. Are the hospitals comparable to ours as far as salary, work environment, etc, etc... .
What's the cost of living like? I've heard several stories but none of which I could verify as being the truth. I already have a few dollars saved up and I think it would be worth my while to live somewhere tropical as it has been my dream to do so. I've already investigated the cost of having dual citizenship and I'm pretty much prepared for that. But I still need some more information on the hospital and medical clinic situation regarding jobs in my field.

It's a beautiful country full of friendly people, and although the cost of living has risen quite a bit in the past decade, the peso has gone down in value. Don't expect your salary to be comparable to what it is in the U.S. Better go there and check it out for yourself.
