Can i get a job at a foriegn consulate, if I am not a citizen of that specific country?

I am a American citizen, recently graduating from a university here with a degree in Political Science. I plan on continuing my education in graduate school. I am interested in International relations. I think working at a consulate would be an interesting entry level job in this field. But is a requirement for a job at a consulate citizenship of that respective country? I have dual citizenship American and Iranian... but unfortunatley neither of these countries have representation in each others countries. Am I out of luck? Any other inteesting entry level jobs in for someone interesting in international relations?

Political Science and fluent Farsi, you might actually check the job offers at cia.gov. The language skills alone are worth a lot to them.

Not totally correct, you don't have to be an American or a citizen of the host country the AMEMB or AMCONGEN is located.
They hire foreign nationals of any country. The security clearance would be low level though.

If you are going to continue your studies you should try for an internship or something with the State department. The consulates are run by the state department. I know you have to be a US citizen to work at a US consulate abroad but I don't think you have to be a citizen of the country in which you are serving.
I wonder though if your Iranian citizenship would prevent you from getting the clearance you need for some of the jobs listed. It never hurts to ask though.
