Can i get a replacement passport without my parents details?

I am 26 and I lost my passport and am now applying for a replacement one. I have just called the office and made an appointment because I need it within a week. I was told on the phone that I must have my parents passport numbers, however i have not been in contact with them for over 10 years and this is not a possibility. Will i still be able to get a passport without this information?

forgot to mention this is a UK passport and still in date i believe. The operator on the call was not very clear - he also said i wouldnt need any ID just my signed photo??

If this is a question for the UK passport control then, no you don't need your parents passport details your an adult.

You need to call the passport office again, or even do a basic thing of going into the post office (always go first thing in the morning, as they are not busy then) At 26 you should not need your parents passport numbers, unless there is an immigration question. Go on line now and yahoo search the passport office, they have a check list for you to follow.

A lost passport cannot/will not be issued in less than a week from when it was reported lost/stolen.

ID checks now are taken much more rigourously than a couple of years ago, let alone many years ago. If you have UK photo drivers licence, it will go quite a way.. as they can use the same Photo ID as verification.

Be careful to get through the actual passport office (ask to speak to the one you will go to) and ask them what you need to verify your Identity. The helpline is NOT an authority (desite the impression given n the website), and annoyingly only offers general advice (despite any confidence or belief they express that you will be OK).

The passport office and only they, are the ones who decide if what you have is good enough. they too (as others have found to their cost, and been told too late that the helpline is just guidance ! - a bit pointless if you ask me, if you cannot use/trust what they tell you... but there you go.)

Your parents' passport numbers provide a short-cut to help establishing your identity.
You can get a new passport without them, but the identity checks may take longer.
