ok so my italian passport expired and i wanna know if i can just get a written note or something letting me go back to italy to renew it or if i have to get it renewed here first...help

If you are an Italian citizen who lives in the United States holding a permanent residence card (I-551) you may use that for departure from the US and your invalid Italian passport on arrival at Italy.
I do not know why Americans keep thinking that since they need valid passports to travel everybody else on earth needs them, too.

"written notes" dont work in these days of heightened security when travelling across international borders, and anyways your Italian embassy wont give you a 'written note', because there is no such thing as a written note! You HAVE to have a valid passport (in your case, a new one) PERIOD!
You will be in real trouble if you go to a airport immigration counter and show them your expired passport.
The BEST option for you right now is contact the Italian consulate or Embassy in your area immediately, take ALL documents you have that prove you are a Italian citizen along with your passport ( if you have other documents like birth certificate etc ) and apply for a new passport. I am sure they will give you a new one fairly quickly once they are satisfied with your papers.
( You havent mentioned which country you are currently residing at).
But remember an expired passport when living in a foreign land can lead to a serious issue, and your casual attitude ' ok so it expired , can i get some note' etc wont work.
Atleast now, show some seriousness about the situation you got yourself into and do the right thing, get a new passport as soon as possible ! |
