i am a citizen of the us and have a social security number and everything and i live outside the us ... i need drivers permit can i apply from usembassy???

1) Drivers licenses are a state issue not a federal issue so no you can not get a drivers license from a US Embassy.
2) If you have a drivers license and want a international driving permit you can get those in a number of different places.
3) There is no such thing as a International drivers license. You can get a international drivers permit which allows you to use your drivers license from your country (or state) of residence in other countries.
4) If you live outside the US get a local drivers license. |

If you need international driving permit for short visit of a country and you forget to bring one, AAA does accept mail-in application. The permit is valid for one year, but your current country of stay may only allow you to use this permit for a certain period of time, say 3 months from your first day of entry. This permit is valid only if it is used in conjunction with your valid US license.
If you need to stay a while in this country, you will need to get the local driver's license. Most countries honor US license and will allow you to exchange with fees, but you need to find out whether our not you need to also surrender your current US license. |
