My passport expired and my work schedule is hectic .Very difficult for me to take some time off. SO i was wondering if anyone applied to the romanian consulate by regular mail (fedex) .I am supposed to do that at the consulate in Chicago. Does each of the consulate has specific rules or are all the same all over? I heard people saying that you have to go in person. I can go to pick it up but to apply ? For a piece of paper? On-line is unclear. They say you have to go in person but they give you the option to pay by money order if you mail it (?). You see my point? Thank you. .. Yes, i tried to call all consulates like 17 times so far, e-mailed, faxed even but..no answer. Thank you for helping.

Yes, you can. Obviously is recommended to mail everything out by FedEx (safer). There are 2 ways to apply: one my regular mail and one in person .You can get your passport directly from Romania if you sign a power of attorney for somebody that you trust in Romania. That power of attorney has to be signed at the consulate .So you have to go there in person. Then, in Romania that person, armed with all the papers from you, can apply in your name and it can take 3 hours if you pay expedite fee. Using the consulate here (at least in Chicago where I got the information from ) takes 4 months. |

An addition: the form required to be filled out is Form 5 that anybody can download from internet. You have to print it out in 2 sided form and then fill it out in 3 original copies. Those you can then mail out along with the other copies of your documents (copies of grenn card etc...) |

i went to the consulate of Romania, and looked up the page, it does not mention that you will have to appear in person, at one time or another?
it just show in case you wanted to go in person to apply....... i put a search link, no answer ......... i may be wrong? but apply anyway, and wait until your passport gets to the consulate of Chicago, it takes a long time, you will need your passport, so perhaps in time you will be able to go if necessary........sorry but no answer from the link,
