Copy Of Birth Certificate From Palermo Sicily/ How To Find Shipline Name Coming To USA ?

I was born in Palermo Sicily back in 1947, I need to get a copy of Birth Certificate and also proof of citizenship,My father is an American Citizen and I am an automatic American citizen do to this fact. I need to know what are my steps on getting information. Also is there a way to find out the name of the ship I came over with my mother, date was May of 1948.

I don't know about how to find out the name of the boat if you don't have any family mementos of the trip, but a good place to start for finding out about records in Italy would be to ask the Italian Consulate General in NYC. They can tell you where such records would be held, where to write to get a copy of them, and whether or not you'll need to write in Italian.
