I guess you need a Schengen visa, but I'm not sure if Malaysians need it.

recently what I know is that Malaysian citizens holding Malaysian passports, may enter EU without a visa.

Check your Foreign Affairs Ministry (Malaysia) for information. I think you no longer need it.

yes absolutely need visa for Italy good luck on getting one .
pre requisites letter on invitation by Italian inantional with clean arrest record or employement letter contract health insurance in the ammount of 30.00 euro and money to sustain you for the time spend ther and 6 months left expiration date after you leave italy
