Do i have to give up my american citizenship?
|
3 years ago I moved to the Netherlands to live with my boyfriend who is Dutch. After having been here this long i have found that i love it here and even if we end our relationship i want to be able to stay which i can't do now if a break up happened because the relationship is what my residency is based on. So what i want to know is..if i obtain legal Dutch citizenship...do i have to give up my citizenship in the US and my US passport ? Any help is appreciated.

The US does not recognize dual citizenship. However, it does not, by habit, strip someone of their US citizenship, even if they are found to have acquired citizenship from another country. I would recommend though, that you continue to file US tax returns and do nothing that would be considered treasonous against US interests. |

I belive that it is possible to obtain dual citizenship if you would like to. I would contact a Lawyer on it as they can better answer the question and give you more specifics on how each type of citizenship would affect you. |

If you obtain the citizenship of another country then you would have to give up your U.S. citizenship.
The only country that it does not apply to is if you obtain citizenship from Israel. You are allowed to keep your U.S. citizenship. |

not positive on this but I believe the answer to be no... although it would probably be difficult to acheive dutch citizenship, your American one cannot be revoked for obtaining another. |

Find the number and call the US Embassay there. It will most likely be in the capitol city of the country. They will be able to answer your question. |
