Czechoslovakia split into the Czech Republic and Slovakia on January 1, 1993. Czech Republic is the western half of the former country of Czechoslovakia and Slovakia is the eastern half of the former country of Czechoslovakia.
Czechoslovakia was located at the south eastern border of Germany, south of Poland and north of Hungary. |

The Czech Republic is a country of 10 million people in Middle Europe, bordered on the North by Germany and Poland. Slovakia is due east. Austria is directly south.
Before its breakup into the Czech Republic and Slovakia in 1993, the country was known as Czechoslovakia. |
