Does the Nigerian embassy conduct backround check on person applying for a business/religious Visa?

There is a part on the Nigerian Visa application that askes if you have ever been arrested or convicted of a crime. I was arrested once six years ago. I bought my round trip airline ticket, have an invitation from the minister of interal affairs and am following all the other rules. Will the fact that I was arrested once six years ago cause me to have my application rejected?

Well don't mention it on the application form and hope for the best. Let be honest here Nigeria is the most corrupt country in Africa.
