My grandfather passed and i have ID Birthcertificate... whats the worst case cenario?

I was born in Los angeles... my cousins have gone a couple .. letting them know that my passport card is in the process.. meaning that i mailed it but not sure if they have received it... i go with family and its a 4 hour drive from LA not that worried about being killed.

To go more than 12 miles into Mexico, you must stop and get a tourist card...and you must have a passport to get it. So...you would be turned around and sent back. Then you may have a very difficult time getting back into the U.S. Mexico just changed their law May 1st to require that you show your American passport in order to get the tourist card, and though American border guards have sometimes been lax about the passport requirement for the past year, people have written in here in the past few days saying that laxness is fast disappearing. |

You would not be able to enter Mexico. You must have a passport or passport card for international travel, including to Mexico.
However, if you're a permanent legal resident, not a citizen, you can travel by car with your green card. |
