Dual citizenship German/American how do I obtain it?

Well I'm 17 years old and I am a US citizen. My mother is a German citizen and my father a US one as well. I also lived in Germany for 3 years 1, 2, and 3rd grade. I was curious how would I go about getting dual citizenship and if I am even qualified for it. I can't think of any more info that is relevant to add.
PS: I heard that I have to do 1 year of social service for the German government

Call the nearest German Consulate and ask. There are Consulates in Chicago, Atlanta, Boston, Houston, LA, Miami, New York, and San Francisco. |

yes, you may acquire German citizenship by your mother (descent)
you would have to contact the German embassy in the US, to find out the nearest consulate, and on German citizenship,
your mother will have to prove citizenship of Germany,
your birth certificate, hers,your father's, marriage license, if married?
