Do all consular officers know the background of most known community colleges in the US?Am attending a non-residential community college in NY but am very,very scared i may be denied on the basis that i will be renting my own apartment and my school is also non-residential.What i know is,most consular officers dont like the idea of Int. students renting and staying in their own aprtments whiles studying in the US,am i safe renting my own apartment?Also i just made the rental request on fon and have no proof,can this be a problem in case the officer wants to see a proof?What can i do in my situation? 4 questions in all

I doubt any one person knows the background of most community colleges in the US. There are too many. But, most community colleges are basically commuter schools, with most of their students living at home or at least off campus. The I-20 should show what your anticipated expenses, including living expenses should be. and you'll need to show how you intend to make it financially. The same form will show if you're living on campus or not, so tell the truth. I doubt many, if any, foreign students have rental agreements in hand before they show up for the first time. There's no reason to be scared, but you will get a few more questions than some other prospective students. So, be prepared to answer them. Good luck. |

Renting your own apartment is not a problem. Many foreign students in the US rent their own apartments. I have no idea why you think this would be a problem? If you're attending a non-residential college, then where else do you think they want you to live? |

Honestly, you need to explore and research more thoroughly. There are to many variables in your case for a blanket/one size fits all answer. Staying within the laws will save you from the possibility of being investigated and possibly detained by the INS or Homeland Security. DO NOT pay for anything without getting a receipt. |
