Hi,
I would like to know the following about the US VISA F-1:
- do I need to secure a University admission before applying? In general, what do I need to have before applying to it?
- how long does the process of obtaining the visa take?
- can I work with an F-1 visa? Can my wife work? Can my kids study? What about medical insurace?

Yes you will need a I-20 from that school, yes you will need the i-20 before you apply for the visa, you will need
1. your birth certificate
2.about 2 time the amount of money the school said you will need for 1 year
3.an appointment at your consulate
4.passport and passport pictures
It depends on the amount of people who applied before you, you could get an emergency appointment to get f-1 quicker.
yes you can work after 1 year, no your wife can't plus she will need to get a f-2 visa or f-1 if she going to study too.
Yes your kids can study but you will need an extra about 5000 per child under 18 else I think they have to get an separate f-1
Medical insurance is a breeze they will surely want your money. |

You must be accepted at a school licensed to accept foreign students under SEVIS and have a valid SEVIS I-20 form to get a visa.
You can NOT work and your spouse CAN NOT work as a F2. If you need the money from a job, you can NOT obtain a F1 visa. |
