Hi,
I'm in the process with my wife on getting a perm visa for Australia. Part of the process is that the Australian authorities need Police Certificates for myself and my wife for where you have been living in the last 10 years, so even though my wife is now a UK Citizen as she has been living in the UK for more than 6 years they still need a Ukrainian Police Certificate.
The documents say you need to go to the Consulate, which I did near Notting Hill gate. The man there was so un-helpful. There no real rules on what to do, does anyone know how to get one properly?

Trouble is thats the whole point we are both in the UK so can't go to a Police station in Kiev.
We phoned the consultant yesterday before I went there and they said they need a letter in Russian from my wife saying what we need, her photocopied passport, and there will be a payment of 25. Yesterday he said it would be around 3 months, and they send it on to Ukraine. Today when I was there he said it could be six months.
Also I have to go back tomorrow as he said my wife didn't mention her Ukrainian address in her letter, but he didn't mention to put it on the phone.
It appears theres no where on their website "Embassy Ukrainian London" where the requirements are.
The guy was very rude and kept serving Ukrainian people before me and made me wait longer even when I first in the queue.

The certificate you need from Ukraine comes from the Police.
You need to go to the district in Ukraine where she lived, visit the police station, and apply for the certificate. You can also order it from the main Police station in Kyiv (you want the "all Ukraine" search).
You can get it in a week to 1 month (depending on how much you pay). They will require seeing her Ukrainian internal passport (or other identification from Ukraine), and every name she used while living in Ukraine.
The consulate can usually arrange this certificate, but that is up to the individual consulate and/or embassy.
You might also check with the Australian consulate, to see if they will accept the police certificate you used to get her British citizenship.

It is unfortunate, but alas.. it is the way of the Ukrainian consulate. The only "requirement" from the police in Ukraine is the fee, a copy of her passport, and the form.
The form asks for any names used, and the "registered address" of the applicant (and signature).
You can either play the dance with the consulate, or fly to Kyiv for the 300BP it costs. |

I would try to get the required documentation directly from the Foreign Ministry of the Ukraine, stating that you get not get anyassistance from their embassy.
There is a site „obtaining documents from Ukraine“ on the website of the Foreign Ministry of Ukraine.
