Got a Shengen visa valid from 17May09 to 17Aug09, but now I plan to enter Spain on 15Aug09 & stay 2 weeks.?

No, you can't. Please accept the fact that Schengen visa are issued on itineraries provided and personal changes are not considered. If your visa is valid until 17 Aug 09 you are supposed to leave the Schengen zone on that date.

I don't know where the third contributor has his information from; for sure not of an official government website.
The Schengen zone consists of 25 members meanwhile;
a grace to stay longer is not given for short term tourist visa;
you should contact your visa issuing consulate and get a new visa covering the period of your stay.

After 9/11 visit to other countries is not too easy even with valid visas. Please do not take chances on technicality. Apply for the visa extension and be safe.

The short-stay visa is the most common Schengen visa. It entitles travellers, subject to the visa requirement, to enter the territories of the 15 Schengen States to pay a continuous visit or several visits, the duration of which does not exceed three months (90 days) in any half-year from the date of first entry in the Schengen area. The short-stay visa is issued for one or several entries.
