Got decline when requested an extension to my B1B2 visa. Now returning?

to the USA. I did file in a timly manner and was turn down. I also left the USA in a timly manner October 17th 2008. What could be my possible hang ups when i return in May 2009

well, if you remained longer than 6 months, it will be obvious to the airport inspectors. It will be less obvious that you applied for an extension. Legally, you're considered still in status while waiting for them to make a decision on your request, so you should bring evidence that you made the request and when you got the answer to show you didn't do anything wrong. however, they still have the right to deny you entry if they think you're using the visa to live and or work in the US, so expect lots of questions, and be prepared.

If you overstayed your previous visa that could be a big problem.

While you said that you left in Oct 17, what was written on your I-94? If everything was in order, you may be requested to explain your early entry back into the US upon your arrival in May.
