Hi, I have a question about obtaining British citizenship for the child of a dual British/Spanish national.?

I hold both British and Spanish passports. I currently live in Spain (moved here eight years ago) and do so as a Spanish citizen, for all the obvious bureaucratic and day-to-day reasons. I am a soon-to-be father and wanted my child to acquire a British Passport/Citizenship. I am married to a Spanish girl here but am married as a Spanish citizen and not British. I am British "other than by descent" and hence, according to the rules my children are automatically British wherever they are born. My doubts arise from the fact that to Spanish authorities the child will be born to a Spanish mother and a Spanish father and this will apear on the child's birth certificate which is what I would have to send to the British Consulate in Madrid in order to register the child as British. Has anyone had a similar experience? Does anyone know if this this would be an obstacle to my children obtaining British citizenship? Any answers will be greatly appreciated.

It doesn't matter that the child has two spanish parents, if one of them is alos British (other than by descent) that's what will matter. When you contact the consulate, you will want to ask them how to provide the evidence needed that you are British. I suspect you'll need your Birth certificate and a passport, current or expired. That will establish that you are British citizen other than by descent. The Birth certificate will establish that the child is your child.
