How can I obtain an American Social Security card, when living in the UK?

I am a dual national (British and American) living in the UK. I need to re-new my American passport ASAP, but need my Social Security number to do this.
Unfortunately I lost my Social Security card some months ago, and need to get hold of a new one.
How can I do this?

You will need a birth certificate to do this :
go to the USA Embassy link for this, download file, read the question number 2.

Just go to the U S embassy and apply I assume you have your old passport you only need to know your SS number
I'm not sure of the U K but in Asia all I needed was my old passport and one other form of picture I D |

You don't need to provide your Social Security Card for the passport renewal application using form DS-82. All you need is to enter the Social Security Number in the application form. If you do not know the number just fill the attached pdf-file and e-mail it to FBU.London@ssa.gov
Your SSN will be mailed to you within three working days.
