I believe the process varies depending on the country you want to represent. I have a fairly similar interest, and know that in the United States, the process is fairly extensive. The official title for a US Diplomat is a Foreign Service Officer. After attending college, obtaining at least a bachelor's degree, you must go through a long application process, several months of specific training and instruction, followed by an interview and skills assesment session to test your ability. From that session, if you pass, you spend a few more months learning about the country you are assigned to before departing.
To me, it sounds like a lot of fun, but from what I've heard it's very competitive to succeed in, plus it isn't exactly a money-making position. |
