How can you get a job at a Canadian Embassy?

Does anyone have any idea where to start to research the possibility of finding a job at a Canadian Embassy? I did a quick Google search and came up with all kinds of useless info. I don't even know what kinds of jobs are available, how to apply or if some kind of political affiliation is necessary. The person who is looking is university educated with a law degree, unilingual and has an interest in finding a job in Central America. Any ideas??

If you are unilingual, your chances are just about nil. If you knew French for starters, there would be two ways to get a job at a Canadian Embassy. The first would be to write the annual exams to join the Canadian Foreign Service, pass them, proceed to the oral examination/interview. Then, if you get offered a job, take a year or two training, then try for a foreign assignment. This could be anywhere in the world. If you were fluent in Spanish, Central America could be a possibility.
The second way is to apply directly to one of the Canadian Embassies in the area you are interested in. You would have to make your way there and work as a locally-hired employee, for local wages. They would want you to be fluent in English, and probably French as well as Spanish, and to have widespread local contacts. Sorry |
