i am a united states citizen. i am looking to go into language and then apply for an embassy job, how do i even start to apply? what do i look for besides what i qualify for? besides military what other options are there to get involved? thank you!

It depends on what you want to do in the Embassy. Many people follow the path to a career in the Foreign Service. For just some sort of clerical job, you need as a minimum, the right to work in the country where the US embassy is located. Knowing the local language is also a plus.
Go to any US embassy website and look under job openings to get an idea of what types of jobs are open to non foreign service officers.

I need more information. If you are am American, join the Military or State Dept for posting to Embassies.

If you are not American and want to work at the US Embassy in your country you will be known as a FSN, or Foreign Service National. The Embassy will list jobs available, from security guard to clerical to cashier and so on. Go by the Embassy and ask for their job listing. The list may be online too, ask for the website.

Then simply apply for jobs which you qualify and hope for the best. You will have to go through a background check, and if you ever visited the US you cannot have overstayed your Visa or worked on a visitor's visa or you will be ineligible for seven years.
