I read somewhere that out of 100,000 applications, only 2,000 were hired over the past few years. Is it really that selective? What could make me a more competitive candidate?

The exam, both written and oral are scored on a curve and then it takes an additional year or more to actually get in. simply passing both tests isn't sufficient as you are placed on a list in rank order. so, if you're near the bottom of the list, you're not likely to get picked unless they zero out the lists, as others who did better after you will be placed ahead of you. plus, you have to get through the security clearance and you and your dependents also have to pass medical exams that would allow you to serve anywhere in the world. So, it's pretty selective. read as many newspapers as you can, pay close attention to world events and try to understand the why of things at least as much as the what and when. |
