How does one get diplomatic immunity?

How does one get diplomatic immunity? Can it be bestowed to anyone? How can a regular joe like me get it?

How can I become part of a diplomatic mission in another country? I do have dual citizenship with the U.S. and Argentina, can this help?

A country has to grant you diplomatic immunity. Seems to me, you're asking for the USA to grant you something it bestows on accredited diplomats. You'd have to get Argentina to hire you as a diplomat, then post you to the USA. As long as one country (Argentina) petitions the host country (USA), and the USA has no problems with the individual, then you may have diplomatic immunity.

The big hurdle for you is convincing Argentina that their national interests are best served by you in the USA.

The better question is- why do you want it? If someone with diplomatic immunity does something really bad (murder, bank robbery, kidnapping) both countries end up negotiating the immunity. It's most often used to dodge parking tickets and similar minor violations, not huge felonies.

In the US the Department of State issues a Diplomatic Passport for those on diplomatic missions in other countries. The country you go to will recognize the diplomatic status.

This only becomes an issue if you could have violated a law, regulation, etc in the country where you are serving on the diplomatic mission.

If you're really interested join the DOS as a foreign service officer.

You get it by becoming a diplomat with either USA or Argentina. You will not be able to have diplomatic immunity in either of those countries because you have citizenship but if you were posted in say France on behalf of Argentina or USA you might get it.
