I'm in grade eleven, and I want to be a diplomat when I'm older.
I'm trilingual, I've lived in three different countries, and my passions are travelling and geography.
I would love to work in am embassy abroad - especially in Europe.
How are ambassadors chosen? By the president/prime minister?
And what should you study in university to become an ambassador?

This is very interesting, because just yesterday I was wondering about that myself, so I decided to do my own investigation and what I found out is:
Ambassador are appointed by the president, but in what basis? well, upon further investigation, I found out that most ambassadors are people with beyond high school education, most of them have a bachelors degree from a college or university, and they all have done something that called my attention, they have a political affiliation with a political party, they have worked for years as members of a political fund raiser. In other words you must rub elbows with political figures before they become presidential candidates, you must have exposure to the public, you must show you are capable of raise money for their candidacy (become part of the finance committees). Most ambassadors are mature individuals with impeccable records, business owners, but they all have a common denominator: They have either raise money for the presidential candidate political campaign or have donated thousands of dollars to their campaign. And basically that's how you get a job as an ambassador. |
