How long can the US embassy keep my passport for?

I've had to send in some extra paper work as well as my British passport after my interview at the US Consular for a fiance visa to move to the USA to be with my future wife and can not get a reply from the Embassy as to when I will get my passport and visa back. It has been over a month now that they have held onto my passport and I need it for work.

You could send a polite letter explaining your position,they would then return your Passport and may ask you to reapply.You will have to be more patient and meanwhile get your girl over here for 6 months.If you love each other you are entitled to be together.But always remember A Visa for another country does not give legal right of entry that is a matter for Immigration.Better still get on the next flight and bring her yourself.
