How long will it take to go through the whole fiance visa process if my fiance lives in England?

Ive been with him for over a year and we have been looking at getting him a fiance visa so he can come to the US. I was just wondering what the steps are to do this and how long each of those might take.

I issue fiance visas often. I see then regularly take around six months from start to finish - sometimes shorter, sometimes longer if the petitioner or the beneficiary are pokey about getting their papers together.

The process for a fiance visa works basically like this: the American files a petition with CIS asking for a visa for the fiance. When the petition is approved, it is sent to the appropriate US consulate or embassy overseas. The fiance makes an appointment for interview with a consular officer, bringing a bunch of required documents. The visa - which is a non-immigrant visa - is approved and the fiance goes off to the US.

Within 90 days of the fiance's arrival, they should either get married or - if they change their minds - the fiance goes back home. If they do marry, the fiance then files for an "adjustment of status" from non-immigrant to legal resident, and gets a two-year "conditional" green card. After two years, if they are still married, here comes permanent US residency.
