How much does it cost to obtain a machine readable passport in UK?

How much does it cost to obtain a UK passport for travel to the USA? I heard it must be a machine readable passport... where do you go to apply for a passport?

All passports issued after August 15, 1988 are machine readable. So if you hold a valid UK passport you may travel visa-free to the United States after having obtained your "Authorization Approved" message from the U.S. Department of Homeland Security.
The ESTA (Electronics System Travel Authorization) is a new requirement for all passport holders who want to travel visa-free to the USA for a stay of less than 91 days.

If you need a passport it will cost Â£72.
