How to apply for my baby's passport?

assuming both father and mother have custody, both parents and the baby need to appear at the nearest passport agent with the state certified birth certificate, two regulation passport photos, drivers licenses or other accepted government picture ids (i.e. foreign passports or us permanent resident cards) and the proper fees. the nearest passport agent can be found at travel.state.gov. allow 45 day time frame from application, 18 day time frame if expedite fees paid. best advice - dont buy tickets until passport is in hand. also, check with the german embassy or consulate to see if the child would be considered a dual citizen and subjected differently to the law in germany. travel.state.gov can also help.

Check to see if you COUNTY has a county government center. Many states have it in the same place that you get your drivers license. Look in your local phone book under "county agencies" for more info. Good Luck!

I would go to your nearest USPS office so they can take the pics. Your babies passport will only be good for a few years as babies tend to grow fast (lol) and pictures will have to be re-taken. I am not sure when you have travel plans but here is a link to expediate the application as well (which gets the passport back in 10 working days):

Based on experience:

I went to the US Post Office. Got an application form and filled it up + baby's birth certificate [certified was ok] + 2 passport photos.. Present with me was my baby and my husband [very important] and our valid identification [your passport is a good ID]. I payed the fee and the return courier [expedited]. They got me my receipt and proof of application, and we went off. I waited 1 week and was delivered in our house.

The issued passport is GOOD FOR 5 YEARS!

Du meine Gute! I think that you are going to want to go to your local post office they always handle passports. However, you want to get on the ball with that cause they can take a lot of time to get to you. They will be happy to make it go faster for a lot more money but that does not mean you will get them any faster. I have heard to many horror stories about that. Good luck with that! Tschau!
