Portugal is in schengen, and schengen countries do not require visas for tourist purposed (they can stay for 90 days without visa). But I want to know if we want to stay longer and work in USA do we require visa? and if so then I long does it take to get it.

There is a visa, but almost difficult to get.
Unless you are highly-skilled, there will be no visa for you.

You'll need a US company to employ and arrange the visa for you.
On your own you can play the Green Card Lottery, other than that there is no realistic chance of getting a working visa unless you fall into very specific catagories, such as students, TV/Movie professional etc. |

Yes, of course. Even to visit as a tourist, you need one. The exception is some northern-european countries who have biometric passports and special arrangements. |
