for his british passport, i already have the application form but the form is asking me to write which british consulate was my son registered at and what did i register him as; a british citizen, british dependent, overseas territories citizen, british overseas citizen etc..
my question is where do i go to register him, does it have to be the british embassy in Washington DC? can't i just go to the one in New York as its closer..or is there an application form i could get online to register him?
Also, I came here in 2005 on a Visa Waiver which expired the same year. Would i need to go to the British embassy to get a new one, as I plan on going back to the UK with my Son next month..(His dad will be joining us in the uk 6 months later).
would it be okay for me to just leave on my passport..as it expires in 2015, so its still valid. or do i need to get something from the consulate to ensure my exit from the united states is a safe one?

Go to the nearest British consulate to register birth to a British citizen while abroad and obtain baby's passport. You need your proof of citizenship, baby's birth certificate listing citizenship of parents, baby's hospital records, passport photos, etc.
Since you have long overstayed your visa, you will be barred from re-entry to the US for ten years. They will let you depart with baby, current passports and paid one-way tickets home whether or not they hassle you a bit about the overstay, but your data will definitely "go into the 'puter" to ensure you cannot return. The sooner you catch that plane out of the US, the better for you, as you are (and have been for the past 3 years) subject to arrest, detention, and deportation at any time. |

any large city has a UK consulate. Visas are issued by the host country, not the one of which you are a citizen. Your exit will be just fine - in fact we are glad to see overstayed people go home and will not stand in your way. |

You'll probably receive a strong answer if you visit one of the Yahoo groups dedicated to immigration issues. Although they're focused on bringing an Chinese or Asian fiance or spouse here, it is a similar situation. Their are a few posters working on UK immigration in China-USA-Couples. There is a Google group dedicated to immigration but I cannot find it so quickly. It has been a few years since I last needed to work on making sure the wife stayed in the same country as I am. |
