you can, but the German Government rquires you to have a reason for keeping your german citizenship. Having family there is NOT a reason. Last i checked IF they think you have a valid reason you have to fork over I think it was 500 euro for the process. I just got my US citizenship 2 month ago. I am american now. After all, that was more important to me then keeping the german citizenship. I know i am german that's all i need.

You can only have citizenship in one country. That's why some people won't become citizens. sorry, you can only have citizenship in 1 country at a time.

ok, this is just my opinion so i may be wrong

It doesn't matter where you are from. You can have dual citizenship. Now, some other countries may not allow dual citizenship. If I were you, I would do some research. Down below is a link to the official US travel website. It does mention dual citizenship.

Once I marry my fiance, I will probably get dual citizenship. I know he will for sure.

If you accept US citizenship you must renounce your citizenship to Germany.

Most other countries allow dual citizenship but NOT the USA. My wife is Canadian and we were applying for her visa etc to come to the USA to live and become a citizen. Because she would loose all her pensions if she did, I decided to come to Canada and become a citizen, well almost I have about a year to go. In Canada I will have dual citizenship and will be able to retain my pension from the USA.

Why don't you come to Canada...it is a much better place I have learned.

Some countries will permit dual citizenship, others don't. If you are concerned about losing your German citizenship, check with the German Embassy in Washington, DC, or contact the German Consulate, and make very sure before you relinquish it.

Contrary to some opinions already expressed, the US does not have any law against dual citizenship. Many other countries do, however, so you need to ask the nearest German embassy or consulate if you will lose your German citizenship upon being naturalized as a US citizen.

This is a hard question. Usually you can have dual citizenship. But some people experience problems with that from time to time. You have no reasons to worry, that chance is just too small.
