I'm pretty sure they will check their central data base to see if there are any felony convictions, flags or prior history which could result in your visa being refused.

if indeed the embassy takes your fingerprints, and you are on records for something? it will come out, why do you think, that now fingerprints are part of passports and visas? with the technology today? what do you think?
if you have committed something that is reprehensible, or against the law? home office as you say? it is not where they will look for......UK is far ahead now.....

yes they will check with uk police and home office to make sure that you have not done anything wrong in uk or europian union. if you are going first time to uk or europe you don't need to worry about it. good luck
