I am on student visa and submitted my passport to the Home Office for visa renewal.?

Now, its almost 4 years I have not received my passport. What steps do I have to take?

you have sent your passport to get a renewal of visa 4 years ago?

you know that you are hear illigally then?

you should have contacted the home office 4 weeks after you didnt recieve your passport. they will have no record of you since it has been so long, you should have sent enough money to cover the Visa costs and the recorded delivery costs.

you will have to check with them and also your own embassy. it is likly that your passport was intercepted in the mail service and returned to your embassy for collection.

If you have a receipt of the forwarded documents, report the incident to your Embassy, apply for a new passport and return back to your country of origin to avoid any further trouble.

You need to contact the Home Office, IMMEDIATELY, & find out if they received your papers at all.

Given the amount of time that has elapsed, they must have lost your papers. Or perhaps if you've changed address, they sent them to an old address.

You also really, really need to seek advice from your own Embassy in the UK at this stage.
