Hello, I am not American, I got Internship in NYC, the organization told me all it's previous interns went there with B1/B2 Visa, I went to the embassy for visa, but the embassy informed me for internship I need J1 visa. and so I have to be provided by DS2019 by the organization. I told my organization but they have no idea what they have to do. I really need them and they need my experience also.
I told them they have to request DS-2019 from US Department State or Department of Homeland and Security. But they called these two offices and those offices told them you have to send email, they sent and they've just gotten back an automatic response!!!!
Now could you please kindly where should they go?
Please do not guide by website, I looked at them Hundred times but I couldn't find my answer.

Officially, yes you need a J1 visa, as you are coming to the US as an intern, not as a tourist.
You sponsor must get the DS2019 for you, by entering your details into the Student and Exchange Visitor Information System (SEVIS) (http://www.ice.gov/sevis/). There is a fee, so many employers just let their students enter on a B1/B2 tourist visa or a tourist visa waiver, although it is technically illegal to work as an intern with such a visa. |
