I had applied for a dependent visa in chennai on december 2 2008. But I havent got it yet?

My husband applied for his renewal also along wid mine. He left for US on a parole letter from his company.
They gave us a chit with a number and asked us to check our status online frequently.
All d people around us has been either issued or asked to send a passport but mine is still pending.
We have already sent a mail but havent got a reply yet.:(
Any idea how these people in the american consulate work?
