I had desertion on my record and i need help getting security Clearance?

i was almost done with my AIT and loving the military when i received a red cross letter sending me home to test to give my mother a kidney, well after i got home 3days later i received a call form the military stating "i need to be back within 24 hours or ill be considered AWOL" i told them i haven't even tested yet to donate i cant come back yet i need more time. they then said "its up to me but if i don't return ill be AWOL" so i was in a really bad situation but I chose to help my mom with donating a kidney. after a couple months of testing and being there for my mother i returned back to the army to received a discharge . I received a chapter 11 entry level because of my situation with my mother. my problem now is getting security clearance because i am ALL about Law enforcement and becoming a Police Officer. I joined the military when i was younger to get a good background and get out at age 22 and become a Officer. unfortunately my single mother comes first and i needed to help her. i am 22 now and a great person with great Morales. I am stuck in a bind because i know what i did for my mother was the right thing to do but at the same time i needed to finish my obligation with the military first. i voluntary for the Sheriffs department as a citizen on patrol with my city and i am currently employed as a mall security officer. I have done nothing but right things in my life and i am willing to do anything to become a cop. its this Stupid mistake i have on my record that's running my future. I was 19 at the time and made the wrong choice. What can i do to ether clear my record or gain security clearance and make my dream to become a Police Officer possible? Anyone that could help me PLEASE... I am Lost

I don't believe it automatically disqualifies you, since you didn't receive and BCD or a dishonorable discharge. You will have to let them know about your military service, and in which case...you might have to explain your situation. But since it is such a unique situation, I'd like to think that you'd be fine.
