Can you afford to pay the tuition, fees, books and living expenses for an International Student in Graduate School? Even at a state university it will easily top $35,000 per year.
First, he has to get accepted by a university as an international student in a graduate program. This might not be easy given the poor reputation of most colleges and universities in the Philippines. For the most part there are just a few schools in Manila that teach to the academic standards of the West.
Once accepted he'll get an I-20 from the school by mail. He'll go to the US embassy in Manila and apply for an F-1 Student Visa. You'll be required to provide full financial details proving you are capable of paying for his education.... certified copies of income tax returns, land deeds, bank statements, stock certificates, bond certificates, etc...
He'll also have to convince the consular officer that he will return to the Philippines following his education. Even if everything else is in place, if he can't convince the consular officer that he'll go home he won't get the visa.
You should know, a lot of Americans try to pull this off as a scam to get girlfriends a visa to the United States that they normally would not qualify for. If you are unrelated to this guy the US embassy will give this case extreme scrutiny.
He'll have some fees for things like registering with SEVIS and travel expenses and health insurance through the school. |
